It all began when Anna Gurine Andersdatter Ringstad and Hans Petter Pederson Drege acquired the plot of land between Litleelva and Sotrelva from the Øyna rectory in 1904. They built their first house on this property. From 1917 until today, the site has been a bustling hotel.
The hotel started as an oasis for travelers and adventurers who wished to explore the stunning mountains and fjords in the area. Thanks to its idyllic location and warm hospitality, the hotel quickly became a popular destination.
During World War II, the hotel was occupied by German forces and served as headquarters for the German command in the area. After the war, the hotel reopened to the public and continued its role as a popular destination.
Over the years, numerous prominent guests have visited the hotel, including three of Norway’s crown princes. Crown Prince Olav visited the hotel in 1946, and both his son and grandson have since been guests here.
Dreges Hotel has evolved and expanded its facilities, becoming recognized as one of the leading mountain hotels in the region. It offers a range of activities for guests, including hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing.
The hotel’s name has also changed over the years. From being known as Storfjord Hotel and later Stranda Hotel, it was renamed Dreges Hotel in May 2024 by Classic Norway Hotels, which took over operations on June 1, 2023.
Today, Dreges Hotel is an elegant hotel with modern amenities and stunning views of the mountains and fjord. It is known for its hospitality and dedication to providing guests with a unique experience of the natural beauty of the Sunnmøre region. With its proximity to Strandafjellet, one of Norway’s best ski resorts, it is a popular choice among ski tourists and nature lovers seeking an unforgettable experience in the Sunnmøre region.
